For the first time on the ATP World Tour, the prize has been done with glass Valencians deposited in the containers in the city

In the presentation were Juan Carlos Ferrero, director of the Valencia Open; Roberto Fuentes, Manager of Ecovidrio area; and Francisco Planells, head of service of the City Hall of Valencia

Valencia Open and Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity responsible for the management of the recycling of waste glass in Spain, and with the help of the Valencia City Hall, have shown this morning the new award. The presentation was done in the City of Arts and Science and the new prize is called ‘Custodiando el Tenis’. It is made with the waste glass that Valencia citiziens throw the last weeks.

Pedro García has been the master glassmaker responsible for make the prize, which has the name ‘Custodiando el Tenis’ (guarding tennis), because the master glassmaker want to guard tennis and sports. Ecovidrio made the website www.sacalepartidoalvidrio.com where all citizens wrote their comments about how they would like to be the award or what should inspire. The winner was the Valencian José Vicente Estellés, for his great idea.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, director of the Valencia Open, was happy for this new design. “This year is full of news, is a very important season for Valencia Open. This prize is a mixture between sustainability and ecological values and is nice, modern and attractive. We are very pleased”. Roberto Fuentes, the Manager of Ecovidrio, said: “this initiatives would not be possible without the involvement and participation of citizens”.

The trophy ‘Custodiando el tenis’

The trophy ‘Custodiando el Tenis’ has been done by the sculptor Pedro García, as a result of the winning idea of the contest #sacalepartidoalvidrio. It weighs 9 kg, measures 28 cm and 40 cm high. It was made with 40 sheets of recycled glass of 5 mm, more two blue finials that symbolize the blue of Valencia’s sea. Futhermore, it emulates a soldier that custody tennis and sport and shows speed, motion, light, power, sustainability and nature.
