Spain’s Garbine Muguruza is feeling the stresses and strains of a near perfect WTA Finals performance, with the No. 3 admitting she is starting to fade heading into wrap-up weekend play, Muguruza reached the semi-finals in both singles and doubles in a stunning debut in Singapore.
Muguruza says she is feeling the physical toll as well as the psychological one. She admitted to some tense moments in the group win over Petra Kvitova which secured a semi-final spot and a perfect 3-0 group record in two and a half hours, a match plagued by 15 breaks of serve.
“There were a lot of moments that I felt frustrated today. Today was about details, very short points, return, serve, double fault, ace. You don’t have many rallies, so it’s easy to get frustrated sometimes. But it’s normal, we had a very tough match. I was very nervous I could not see that many opportunities until the end. I have the victory, so it’s good.”
Playing singles and doubles is becoming a challenge, she added: “For sure I’m tired today. It’s going to a challenge for me to see how much my body can handle, because now I don’t have a day off,” she said.
“It’s great to be in my position, to be playing singles and doubles semi-finals, but it’s going to be hard. I have to recover well and do everything possible to be ready for both matches.”
