Up-and-coming American teenager Frances Tiafoe has switched agencies, signing with CAA.
“I have officially signed with CAA Sports,” said Tiafoe on social media. “Happy to have made such a good decision.”
He added that it would allow him to concentrate on tennis.
It is the second agency Tiafoe has joined, having turned pro at 17 with RocNation, which largely represents entertainment and league sports and had never previously had a tennis player.
“Combine the potential with a kid of his charisma, his attitude, his personality,” said his former agent, Wajid Syed, upon his signing in an interview with the New York Times. “We, as a company, thought it would be a good fit. We’re making sure that we nurture his tennis development and how we can help with that. The other things, the business and the brand, will be a natural extension of his growth on the court. ”
Tiafoe has again signed with a non-traditional tennis agency, though one with an increasing presence in the sport. It is an indication of his potential for broad public appeal should he be a successful player.
Tiafoe is ranked No. 178, having climbed steadily since starting on the tour following a stellar junior career, and is playing mostly at the Challenger level.
