There are a few cities bidding to hold the ATP’s under-21 tournament, the ATP has told AP, with the Italian federation looking for the event to be played in that country.
ATP CEO Chris Kermode would like the event to be played the week before the ATP Tour Finals, with the same kind of eight-player round robin setup as the Tour Finals. The tournament would provide 1.5 million Euros in prize money.
The Italian federation would like to hold the event, with Milan among the possible cities.
“We want to bring a big tournament to Northern Italy, and we’ve already discussed the possibility with local authorities,” said federation president Angelo Binaghi.
The tournament would feature the seven top-ranked players under 21, and one wildcard. The field could include players like Borna Coric, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Exact qualifying criteria have not been announced.
