– The Czech, who has already qualified for the Barclay ATP World Tour Finals in London in November, won the ATP World Tour 250 tournament without dropping a set.
– It was Berdych’s second title of the year after winning Shenzhen earlier this month (d. Garcia-Lopez).
– Sock was attempting to become the first American man since Andy Roddick (2008 Beijing) to win an ATP World Tour singles title after the US Open.
– Later in the day, Sock and Nicholas Monroe captured their first team title against Mate Pavic and Michael Venus.
– It was Sock’s third doubles title of the year (Indian Wells & Beijing), and Monroe’s first.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Berdych: “I’ve definitely built up a good history here, which always helps. The tournament does a really good job taking care of us, making us feel at home. Sometimes you find a place in the world that suits you well, and it’s the case here. I’m glad to be able to add to my titles here.”
Sock: “My goal is always to do the best I can in singles. Doubles I play for fun and to get some more practice during the week, so singles is definitely my priority. [Berdych] is top-five, top-seven in the world for a reason. He stays in every game.”
Monroe: “The tournament is well-run. There’s a family feel to it and it’s always good to come back and feel at home. It’s always good to have a partner like Jack this week. He helped me get over the hump.”
