France’s Michael Llodra has made it official – he has hired Stephane Simian as his coach. Emmanuel Planque and Guillaume Raoux previously coached the lefthander Llodra. While on tour, Simian was coached by Thierry Tulasne, among others
“He's going to be with me for this part of the year,” said Llodra, who has used two time Grand Slam champion Amelia Mauresmo as a coaching consultant over the past year.
“He's doing well because he makes me do things I wouldn't do without him. Like this afternoon I would have liked to have gone to the swimming pool with my kids, and instead I will have to practice. I trust him for many things. He knows many tactics that are helpful.”
The 47th-ranked Llodra, who has had an up and down year, said that Simian has a similar to style to that of Mauresmo’s. “He has a fresh approach to the game and a certain detachment, which is useful. It's like with Amelie. We can talk about any kind of subject. .. I never really had a consistent season. I always have ups and downs. It's not easy playing singles and doubles at the same time. But fortunately I'm not injured for the time being.”
The Davis Cup stalwart has a busy summer ahead, as not only is he planning on playing the Olympics to add to an already packed summer schedule, but his wife Camille is due to give birth to their third child.
“There will be a transition with maybe the third kid being born,” he said. “I know it's going to be tough. It's going to be grass, a third pregnancy, I don't know how it's going to be. The birth is scheduled for the second week of Wimbledon, but if the baby comes before, we'll see.”
Llodra and some of the French players have been meeting about who should be France’s next Davis Cup captain. Arnaud Clement is considered the favorite, but Llodra would not say whom he or the others would like to see selected. Longtime captain Guy Forget just retired.
“The situation is new for us because Guy’s been the captain for the past 14 years,” he said. “I know only him for the time being. We are discovering a new situation and it's only through communication that things will be solved. “
