Sunday Men's Tennis Summary
Roland Garros
Singles - Final: (2) Rafael Nadal leads (1) Novak
Djokovic 6-4 6-3 2-6 1-2, suspended
It didn't take Rafael Nadal long to strike. He broke in
the very first game of the match. And the third. And
then -- Novak Djokovic broke back. It was starting to
feel as if it would be a long day. Especially since play
had to be halted with Nadal up 6-4 5-3.... (It was
drizzly for most of the match; there probably would have
been no play at all on a hardcourt.) Nadal came back to
go up two sets to none, then 2-0 to start the third set
-- when suddenly Djokovic truly came to life, winning
eight of the next nine games. Then, up a break at 2-1 in
the fourth set, play was again halted. (This weather,
incidentally, has been forecast to interfere with play
at Queen's on Monday.)
With the sun going down, they finally gave up. The rest
of the final will take place on Monday. It will be
interesting to see if Nadal plays Halle after this....
