International Tennis Federation Bans Cycling/Tennis Doctor
The
International Tennis Federation announced that it recognizes the
lifetime ban imposed on Dr. Luis Garcia del Moral by the United States
Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for various Anti-Doping Rule Violations.
Garcia del Moral has worked with tennis players Dinara Safina and Sara
Errani, and he worked at Spain's TenisVal Academy beginning in 2006,
where players such as David Ferrer, Igor Andreev, Maria Kirilenko, Pablo
Andujar, Anabel Medina and Marat Safin have trained.
Haas Shoots Up To Top 25 On ATP Tour
Tommy
Haas can't believe his fast-track progress back through the ranks of the
ATP as the 34-year-old celebrates a return to the top 25. Haas has
played three finals in five weeks on three different surfaces. He won on
grass in Halle in June and made title bids on Hamburg clay and last
weekend in Washington in steamy conditions on cement.
Nestor Received Honor From Canadian University
Canadian
doubles king Daniel Nestor has dipped his toes into academia, with the
39-year-old receiving an honorary degree from a Toronto university
during his home ATP event. As it turns out, the school is located just a
few steps from the tournament venue, meaning little disruption to his
training schedule.
Williams Dances a Gang Dance At Olympics
Olympic
gold medalist Serena Williams may have gone briefly back to her roots in
a deprived Los Angeles suburb as she celebrated her London Games success
with what some have described as a "gangster walk" from the means
streets of Compton.
The
multi-millionaire player, whose father has recounted in the past how she
and sister Venus had to train for their sport in the early days amid the
street violence of the area, is making no apologies for her
controversial rendition of the "Crip walk" used by a major LA gang.
