Hewitt, Blake And Johnson Get US Open Wildcards
The
USTA announced that 2001 US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia,
along with two-time US Open quarterfinalist James Blake and reigning
NCAA singles champion Steve Johnson have been awarded men’s singles main
draw wild card entries into the 2012 US Open Tennis Championships. Other
Americans receiving a wild card include 2010 US Open boys’ singles
champion Jack Sock, 2010 US Open boys’ singles finalist Denis Kudla,
2012 USTA Boys’ 18s singles champion Dennis Novikov, and current world
No. 100 Rajeev Ram. France’s Guillaume Rufin will also receive a wild
card.
Federer Is Concerned About Nadal’s Injury
The
extended injury absence of Rafael Nadal is disturbing to Roger Federer,
who is concerned about the state of his longtime rival who has not hit a
ball in anger since late June.
"I
was going to write him and check on him, because I can't believe he's
been out that long," Federer said of the former No. 1.
Time To Rest Is Precious For Federer
Roger
Federer will take what he can get by the way of post-Olympic breaks,
with the Swiss top seed preparing for a mid-week start in his bid for a
fifth title at the Cincinnati masters.
The
world No. 1 said that even the few days he spent away from the courts
last week after losing the London games gold medal match to Andy Murray
was welcome. But he's in the mental tunnel now, concentrating on the run
to the US Open which starts in less than a fortnight.
