Clijsters Finishes Her Professional Career With Her Head Hell High
One
of the unwritten rules in tennis coverage is applause in press
conferences is kept to an absolute minimum. For second round losers at
the U.S. Open it’s unheard of but Kim Clijsters is very much an
exception to most rules, and she received applause from an appreciative
media audience.
And
after losing out 7-6, 7-6 to Britain’s highly impressive 89th
ranked Laura Robson, there was not any glimpse of any second thoughts.
“This completely feels like the perfect place to retire,” Clijsters
admitted on the post-match on court interview. “I just wish it wasn’t
today.”
Clijsters Reflects On 'Rollercoaster' Career
Kim
Clijsters heads into retirement after losing her second-round singles
match to Laura Robson. Afterwards, Clijsters looked back at her career
achievements, which include four Grand Slam singles titles and being
World No. 1.
"I
think my first [WTA Tour] Championships that I won were very special,"
she said. "Every victory has a special meaning because there's like a
personal story behind each one of them."
Wozniacki Loses At US Open And Drops Out Of Top 10
Former
world no.1 Caroline Wozniacki is set to drop out of the WTA’s top ten
after suffering a second successive first round exit at a Grand Slam
event. Questions are now being asked about the 21 year-old Dane’s
sustained fitness and commitment after a painful exit against 96th
ranked Irina-Camelia Begu.
