Mardy Fish heeded the advice of his doctors and pulled out of the U.S. Open a matter of hours before his fourth-round match against top seeded Roger Federer as a "precautionary measures" following a recurrence of the accelerated heartbeat that required a surgical procedure earlier this year.

Knee injury victim Rafael Nadal is all but out for the remainder of the season after the Spaniard confirmed that he will not play for the next two months in order to let his problem heal.

Federer Not Surprised About Extent Of Nadal’s Injury

Roger Federer says there are no secrets in the locker room between himself and Rafael Nadal when it comes to injury niggles, with the Swiss adding that while he's sorry that his rival has missed two months of tennis, the Nadal absence did not come as a complete surprise.

"He sees me taped up, I see him getting taped up.  We see each other warming up for matches and so forth," said the said the top seed at the US Open, whose level of fitness at age 31 is becoming a talking point around the grounds.


Tomic Is Off The Hook Following Match Performance

Bernard Tomic has escaped censure and a heavy fine from the Grand Slam Committee after John McEnroe used the ESPN television microphone to publicly accuse the Australian teenager of not trying in his straight sets U.S. Open demise against the soon to retire Andy Roddick.

The performance was examined by Grand Slam Committee director Bill Babcock, who was seeking to investigate whether Tomic contravened the rules concerning a ‘lack best of effort’.
