Britain’s
Watson Wins A Pro Event
Barely
a month after Andy Murray demanded a long overdue reprint of the British
national tennis record books by becoming the first male Grand Slam
champion for 76 years than Heather Watson stepped forward to ensure
another by ending a 24 years long wait for a woman from the United
Kingdom to win a WTA title.
The 20 year-old from Guernsey, won the HP Japan
Open title in Osaka.
Ferrer
Qualifies For London
Three
spots remain open for the World Tour Finals after Spain's David Ferrer
was confirmed as the fifth to qualify for the eight-man event which
begins November 5. Ferrer will be playing the season wrap-up for the
third straight year, reaching the semi-finals a year ago against
eventual champion Roger Federer whole losing all three of his group
matches the year before.
Federer Heads
Home To Basel With Number One Ranking In His Pocket
Roger
Federer was far from happy after losing his Shanghai Masters semi-final
6-4, 6-4 to Andy Murray. But the Swiss says that despite the setback he
has already achieved his main objective for this ATP season as he heads
to his home Swiss Indoors event in Basel in a week.
Despite going down to defeat, Federer said he has
achieved a major goal: "I wanted to get back to world No. 1 this year,"
he said.
Djokovic Is
Aiming For Number One At Year End
By
winning the Shanghai Rolex Masters and braving no fewer than five match
points against Andy Murray in the final, Novak Djokovic took a major
step towards overhauling Roger Federer to end 2012 as the World No.1 for
the second year in succession.
And the Serb did not hide his ambition as he
pocketed the $US669,450 winners’ check by saying: “The year ending no.1
ranking, it's my biggest objective in this moment. It's something I'm
aiming for."
