Federer Facing
End-Of-Season Problems
Roger
Federer's end-of-season run of success a year ago which propelled his
push back to the No. 1 ranking last summer, had it's start a year ago in
his hometown of Basel, where he is playing this week to claim his sixth
title from the last seven editions.
But the compressing of the calendar this season
means there is no more one-week break between Paris and London, leaving
Federer to decide only at the last minute if he will show up form next
Monday at Paris Bercy.
London
Openings Down To 2 Spots
The
London year-end ATP field is theoretically down to two open spots after
Tomas Berdych, qualified into the sixth position by virtue of his
Stockholm Open title at the weekend. The Czech will be playing the
eight-man season wrap for the third time, joining a short list which
includes Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and
David Ferrer.
Hewitt To Play
in Melbourne Warm Up
Australian
tennis stalwart Lleyton Hewitt heads the field at a decidedly low-key
AAMI Classic as the eight-man special event in Melbourne prepares for
its 25th edition.
Bryans To
Finish Year At #1 For 8th Time
American
brothers Bob and Mike Bryan have clinched the year-end No. 1 ATP Doubles
Team Ranking for a record eighth time and for the fourth consecutive
season.
