Sharapova Fears She Might Not Be Healthy Enough To Play 7 Rounds
Maria
Sharapova spent a worried Christmas as she woke up a few days before the
holiday with collarbone plain which will delay her competitive start to
2013 as she plays her first match of the season at the Australian Open.
Federer Is Taking The Long View
At
the age of 31, Roger Federer is taking the long view these days. He
decided not to play any Australian Open warm-up tournaments, instead
relaxing with his family, focusing on fitness and the little things he
needs to improve that will make him a better player.
Monfils Hopes To Be Healthy To Play
Injury-prone
Gael Monfils will be hoping that time will help him be ready for the
start of the Australian Open. The Frenchman who limped thorough the week
in Auckland into a semi-final which he lost to German Tommy Haas, is
concerned about trying to find fitness after knee injuries during much
of 2012 and a sore hamstring which has been bothering him.
Stosur Knows She Is On An Upswing
After
an embarrassing first round exit at last year’s Australian Open and two
more initial defeats in this year’s warm up tournaments in Brisbane and
Sydney, Samantha Stosur breathed a sigh of relief after surviving the
potential minefield that awaited her on Rod Laver Arena.
After All That, Baker Made The Main Draw
Britain’s
Australian Open qualifier Jamie Baker overcame not only a
life-threatening blood condition but also a prolonged bout of depression
before registering a place in the 128 strong main draw at Melbourne
Park.
