Tsonga Is One Win Away From The French Open Finals

Yannick Noah was the last Frenchman to win the Roland Garros title in 1983, and the tournament has spent a fair amount of time celebrating the 30th anniversary of his win.

But not everyone is being nostalgic during the fortnight: France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has reached the semifinals for the first time and has at least a 50-50 chance of gaining the final as he will face fourth seed David Ferrer in the semifinals, a tough opponent but not one whom he would be a substantial underdog against, like he would be if he was facing seven-time champion Rafael Nadal.

For all of his clay titles and his 20-10 record over Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal admits that in the grand scheme of tennis, he has not yet caught up with the Swiss, Nadal, tipped again as favorite at the French Open as he bids for an eighth title from nine editions, bases his analysis on simple numbers. And on the face of things, Federer still sets the overall pace.

Thirty years after his incredible run to capture the Roland Garros title, France's adored Yannick Noah was celebrated once again, when he received his official Hall of Fame ring in a private presentation earlier this week.
