Citi Open Emphasizes ATP Scheduling

The Citi Open just concluded its second year as a joint ATP-WTA event but according the New York Times, it doesn't see itself that way.

Tournament director Donald Dell said he did not view it as a typical combined event.  “I don’t say it’s a combined event; I say it’s two events playing in the same week,” Dell said “A combined event connotes — which I think is unfair to the men — like we’re an equal-prize-money tournament,” Dell said. “We’re not. And there’s no sense in trying to say that.”

Minimum Time Between US Open And Davis Cup Action

Fears were high that the swift turnaround between the US Open, due to conclude - weather permitting - on the evening of Monday, September 8, and Britain’s Davis Cup World Group play-off against Croatia, scheduled to begin less than four days and 4201 mile east in Umag, would again rule out Andy Murray. But the Wimbledon champion is insistent he will not let his country down.

Nadal Is Confident In Montreal

Rafael Nadal goes into the first test of his knees since a Wimbledon first-round loss when the Spaniard faces Jesse Levine, who earned the first Canadian win of the week as he beat Xavier Malisse 6-4, 7-6(4) in Montreal.

Murray Is Making No Predictions In Montreal

Andy Murray is making no predictions regarding his hardcourt form when he steps onto the cement this week at the Montreal Masters after four months off of the punishing surface. The second seed behind Novak Djokovic will be playing the second round against either Marcel Granollers, Spain's weekend winner of the Kitzbuhel title on clay, or Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

Azarenka Believes Williams Is The One To Win At US Open

Given her recent injury problems, Victoria Azarenka is currently thinking she will simply be happy to play the US Open pain free. And the Australian Open champion, who was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon after suffering a painful fall and is again sitting out this week’s Rogers Cup in Toronto, is in no doubt defending champion Serena Williams will be the player to beat in New York.

Pioline Sees No Big Wins In Federer’s Future

Tennis talking head Cedric Pioline has cast doubts on the ability of Roger Federer to bounce back and regain a top ranking place, with the former two-time grand slam finalist pronouncing the no. 5 Swiss done and dusted.
