Yonex has been named the official stringer of the Australian Open, the first time the company has been the stringing sponsor of a Grand Slam event.

The company said it is planning to string 4,000 racquets during the three weeks of tournament qualifying and play.

The deal is another step in Yonex’s recent re-gaining of endorsement visibility, which included signing two-time Grand Slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka for $20 million when the two renewed their agreement — the biggest the company has ever done with a player.

Yonex describes its international stringing team of 700 members as the largest of its kind worldwide.
