Prosecutors in Miami are reported to have dropped charges against Australia’s Bernard Tomic who was charged in July with resisting a police officer and trespassing after being accused of playing loud music in his suite at the city’s W Hotel.
Australian Associated Press quoted Tomic’s United States-based lawyer, Chad Piotrowski who maintained that when he probed the case he found inconsistencies in the security and police reports.
“We knew all along the case wouldn’t hold up in court and the charges would be dropped,” said Piotrowski. “After aggressively attacking the charges, the state prosecutor decided to dismiss her case against Bernard.”
Piotrowski’s investigation of the case was so thorough, he insisted there was no requirement for Tomic to attend the hearings.
“I uncovered internal reports generated by the W Hotel security staff that were completely inconsistent with the rest of the evidence in the case,” said the lawyer.
“In the end, I was able to establish that Bernard did not break any laws and he didn’t do anything to deserve being arrested. I’m very pleased that the state did the right thing in dismissing his case. Justice was served today.”
According to AAP, Piotrowski said when he relayed the news to 21st ranked Tomic, the 22 year-old excited by the decision and pleased with how the case was handled.
