Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal received as much as $2.1 million each for their exhibition match in Thailand, according to various accounts.

Though figures differed on exactly how much each of the two stars were paid for the exhibition to promote Thai tourism, putting it anywhere between $1.2 and $2.1 million, the event appears to be one of the most lucrative one-offs arranged in tennis. The figures are in keeping with the $2 million Roger Federer earned per match on his South American tour a few years ago.

The two players competed in a 5,700 seat stadium in a match that was nationally broadcast. Though it was little more than an hour, with Djokovic winning 6-4, 6-2, the two players also took part in several promotional events in Bangkok. That included wearing traditional attire and meeting with the country’s new leader, who took power in a military coup a year and a half ago.

Bangkok previously hosted an ATP event till 2013. A $2 million exhibition featuring five top 20 players was instead held during the offseason the following year.
