They spent decades contesting Grand Slam semifinals and finals, occupying the Top 10 in the rankings, and travelling the world together, and now the stars of the ATP Champions Tour are in Mallorca for the Legends Cup.
Former World No.1 Thomas Muster and No.2 Alex Corretja have been drafted in to the field as replacements for Carlos Moya and Sergi Bruguera in a round-robin tournament played over four days, with the final on Sunday.
Corretja is up against six-time Grand Slam semifinalist Tim Henman and 1988 French Open runner-up Henri Leconte, while Muster is in a group with the 1999 Australian Open finalist Thomas Enqvist and the 1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash.
The top player from each group will meet in Sunday’s final.
The ever-popular Mansour Bahrami and the 1986 Roland Garros runner-up Mikael Pernfors are also in town for doubles action.
Thursday’s play starts at 6pm local time with Corretja against Leconte, and Cash vs. Enqvist.
After the Legends Cup in Mallorca, the ATP Champions Tour moves on to Seoul (South Korea), Monterrey (Mexico), Verona and Modena (Italy), before arriving in London (England) in December.
