Casey Dellacqua Tennis News

Casey Dellacqua has fallen victim to a concussion on court, with the Australian forced to withdraw in doubles form the WTA Finals starting Sunday in Singapore.  Dellacqua joins Canadian Eugenie Bouchard as a recent victim of a fall, with hers coming in Beijing during a match.

Dellacqua explained on social media: “Two weeks ago in Beijing I had a heavy fall and suffered a blow to the back of the head resulting in concussion & whiplash injuries. After spending a night in hospital in Beijing I was able to fly home & since then I have been doing my absolute best to get myself ready foe the WTA Finals, which I’ve been sooo excited for since we qualified after the US Open.

“Unfortunately, I’m not fully recovered & have to withdraw. I’m absolutely devastated and so sorry to my partner Slava (Shvedova of Kazakhstan) as I know we deserved out spot in Singapore & have been one of the best doubles teams this year.

“I will eventually be OK but now it’s time for me to rest & recover both my body & mind & to spend some time with my family.”

Dellacqua’s team lost the French an US Open finals this season while winning the Madrid clay title.

Bouchard, the 2014 Wimbledon finalist, has filed suit against the USTA for damages over the Canadian’s fall and concussion on a wet US Open training room floor which has left her unable to compete this autumn on the WTA.

Bouchard has been unable to play ever since the US Open accident nearly six weeks ago, retiring in one comeback attempt earlier this month in Beijing.
