Simon Halep may be ranked between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in the rankings, and a survey suggests she is the top endorser in Romania.
Internationally, in terms of endorsements, however, the 24-year-old lags far behind the respective $14 million and $23 million the two are estimated to earn off the court.
Halep, who has not won a grand slam event, also does not figure in 2015’s top 12 highest-earning tennis players (male or female) , as published by Forbes, and though the publication does put her at No. 7 in amongst highest earning female athletes with $6.8 million, all but $1.3 million is said to be from on court earnings. However, she is also less established than higher-earning players like Sharapova, Williams, Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, and Petra Kvitova, who have all won grand slam events or been No. 1.
Halep is managed by former Romanian player Virginia Ruzici.
But the Romanian is the most marketable person in her own country, according to a recent poll which put her at the top of the Romanians most influential in consumer purchasing decisions. It looked at telecom, retail, fashion, financial and medical products. Halep was No. 1, followed by TV presenter Moisescu, singer Smiley, and another tennis name, Ion Tiriac. The survey, by Starcom Mediainvest Group, polled 2,089 respondents in urbanized areas.
Reflecting her national status, Halep has deals with three Romanian companies, such as Vodafone Romania, Dorna Romania. She is clothed by adidas and has a racquet deal with Wilson.
