The tennis division at Lagardere, which represents some of the sport’s most prominent players, appears to be in tatters with the departure of its central agents.
Following the agency’s dismissal of division president John Tobias two weeks ago, it emerges that other agents such as Sam Duvall, Meilen Tu and Stuart Duguid, are also leaving the company.
According to Sportsbusiness Journal, the dismissal was linked to the decisions of Victoria Azarenka and Eugenie Bouchard to leave for rival IMG, but company executives declined to comment on whether the division was profitable an whether Tobias was asked to remove other agents.
Duval had been the agent for Bouchard and Tu was the agent for Azarenka.
But the agency has several other name players, like Caroline Wozniacki, Agnieszka Radwanska, John Isner, Sloane Stephens and Kevin Anderson, in a large tennis stable that Tobias was instrumental in building.
The publication quoted Julien Cassaigne, a new senior vice president, saying, “My new role is to rebuild our portfolio of players and keep our current players and to recruit a new team and hire new agents.”
Tobias has not commented on his next move.
