The seeds started to fall on day two of main draw play at the 2015 Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger benefiting Special Olympics Virginia.
Starting off the day, No. 8 seed Liam Broady took to the court against American teen and wild card, Ernesto Escobedo. Broady quickly took the first set 6-0 after firing in five aces and winning three out of four break points. However in the second set, momentum started to shift as Escobedo found his rhythm and took the set in a tight tie break. In the final and decisive set, Escobedo dominated the points, hitting four aces and winning 100% of his first serve points. Winning the match 0-6, 7-6(5), 6-3, Escobedo now faces Dimitar Kutrovsky in the second round.
Shortly after, defending champion and No. 2 seed, James Duckworth, took to the court for another three set match. Although Duckworth took the first set rather easily, qualifier David Rice played tough tennis and was able to win the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Rice will now play fellow qualifier Stefan Kozlov in the second round.
American teens continued the winning streak, as Frances Tiafoe battled it out against No. 1 seed Malek Jaziri. Tiafoe was able to take the Tomorrow in the first of two featured evening matches, University of Virginia favorites, Mac Styslinger and Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, team up in the doubles competition where they will be taking on No. 3 seeds Peter Polansky and Adil Shamasdin. Immediately following, American favorite and No. 4 seed Ryan Harrison then looks to move in to the quarter-finals when he takes on Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen in the second round.
