Caroline Wozniacki Tennis News

The former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is being honest, even though she hasn’t told the truth before this year. But this time, the Dane hasn’t gone deep since the spring. She is currently ranked No. 17. That’s a long way from No. 1.

Last week, she was in Zhuhai, and she became hurt and she had to pull out. She cut her right finger and couldn’t use her racquet.  As she said, she’s in pain and there is nothing she can do on-court.

“It’s been really, really frustrating, (expletive) half of the second year,” Wozniacki said. “Basically just been falling apart physically with the knee and back and leg and wrist. It’s sad, because I came here [Zhuhai] and it’s like I’m going to finish off the year strong. To come here and only play half a match is really disappointing. It’s a long way, and I wanted to finish off the year well. I’m just going to take some time off and do some recovery and build up my body so I can be strong enough for the whole season next year.”

Wozniacki said that after Wimbledon, she was happy that she would be on the hard courts again. Last year, the 25 year old reached the US Open final and in 2015 she thought she would finally be able to win a major. But she became hurt early and she never recovered. Perhaps she should have rested rather than continuing to play at the tournaments when she wasn’t 100 percent. But she pushed on, which was a mistake.

“I’m such a competitor and I always want to play because that’s what I love to do,” Wozniacki said. “Sometimes it’s hard to just say stop and take?? give your body time to heal. I think the older I get the more I need to realize that I can’t just go out there and play and do things like that when I’m not 100%, because it’s just going to do thing worse. It was different when I was younger. You have a little bit of pain here or there and it would go away. Just doesn’t happen anymore. I just think I need to realize that.”
