All 8 Seeds Advance at JSM Challenger Qualifying

After day one of qualifying, all 8 seeds will continue into the second round of the JSM Challenger qualifier on Sunday November 15. The four players to win two more matches will earn qualifying positions into the main draw beginning Monday November 16.

Although there were no upsets on day one, Australian player from the University of Illinois was close to upsetting the seventh seed Marcus Willis of Great Britain but lost 6-3 in the final set. One of the most interesting matches of the day was former Illinois player Farris Gosea of Great Britain versus American player from Northwestern, Strong Kirchheimer. Gosea saved match points to come back and win the final set 7-5. Other former Illinois player Tim Kopinski also prevailed pulling out a close match 6-4 in the final set.

The second round of qualifying begins at 10:00am on Sunday November 15 on courts 1, 2 and 5. The feature matches of the day include the first seed Joshua Milton of Great Britain versus American player and Illinois standout Aron Hiltzik. Milton and Hiltzik are scheduled to play second on court 1 after 10:00am. Another feature match includes second seeded American player Chase Buchanan versus David O’hare of Ireland third match on court 2 after 10:00am.

The main draw has also been released, however will not be finished until Monday November 16 when the final rounds of qualifying are completed. The seeds for the main draw event include: Malek Jaziri, Austin Krajicek, Ryan Harrison, James Duckworth, Alejandro Falla, John-Patrick Smith, Bjorn Fratangelo and Blaz Rola. The eight seeded players fall between the rankings of first seeded Jaziri at 97 and eighth seeded Rola at 132, according to the ATP world rankings.
