Bastian Trinker, ranked 294th in the world, lost in the first round of the main draw this morning to Filippo Leonardi. Their match began yesterday, but was suspended due to weather in the second set. Play resumed where it left off, and Leonardi won the second set 6-4. Trinker was up 5-2 in the third set before losing five straight, and ultimately lost by a score of 7-5.
Local high school player Chris Ephron and former UWF player and national champion Bruno Savi won both of their doubles matches today and will play in the semifinals tomorrow afternoon. They will be playing Patrick Daciek and Denis Nguyen, who defeated the number one doubles seed earlier this evening. Nguyen also won his singles match in a third set tiebreaker an hour before winning his doubles match. Nguyen played at the number one spot for Harvard for three years before graduating in May.
Wil Spencer, originally from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, had another easy match today. He won his match yesterday by a score of 6-0 6-1 and today by a score of 6-2 6-2. Spencer is the fourth seed in the tournament and is ranked 482nd in the world. He will play Alex Rybakov tomorrow at 10 a.m. Rybakov reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 junior US Open. He also competed in the junior French Open.
There is still much more tennis to be played as the singles quarterfinals and doubles semifinals will begin tomorrow afternoon. The singles semifinals and doubles finals will begin on Saturday, and the singles finals will take place on Sunday. Here is a schedule of tomorrow’s matches:
