The Pensacola Futures tennis tournament came to an end today with a great finals match between Henrik Wiersholm and Alex Rybakov. They both won their first sets easily, but the third set was back and forth before Wiersholm won three straight to win the set 6-3. The scores for the match were 6-2, 1-6, and 6-3.
Wiersholm, who is a sophomore and plays tennis for the University of Virginia, hasn’t played a Futures Tournament since he entered college. Prior to today, he had qualified for a few main draws but he had never gotten a point. Rybakov, on the other hand, has received many points and is ranked 730th in the world. Rybakov has been runner-up in two Futures Tournaments in a row, and also reached the quarterfinals of the junior US Open earlier this year.
Both Wiersholm and Rybakov, who are good friends on and off the court, struggled with their serves in the windy weather during the first two sets. They were able to adapt to the conditions during the third set and get a few more rallies in.
