A California-based startup called TuringSense has raised $3 million in funding to build a wearable sensor for tennis players.

The company’s first development product, Pivot, consists of 15 wearable sensors that allow players to track their movement, swings and physical activity with no camera. An app allows users to access and track the data, including sharing it with coaches and trainers. The amount of sensors can be adjusted based on what type of movement wearers want tracked.

Five equity firms contributed to the funding round — Angel Plus, ChinaRock Capital, Ideosource, SV Tech Ventures and Zen Water Capital.

“Being able to attract such prestigious investors is recognition of the large market potential,” the CEO, Limin He, noted in a statement. “This funding gives us the financial strength to advance our goals of revolutionizing the way sports are played, practiced, and coached.”

The sensors allow users to improve their technique and adjust their motion to avoid injuries.

The company plans to expand into other sports and health products but is beginning with tennis. It is also launching an online campaign for more financing.
