USTA Texas is pleased to announce their newly appointed Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator, Marcos Valdez.

Marcos comes to USTA Texas with more than eight years of non-profit experience, specializing in diversity and inclusion, program management, development, and fundraising.  He has a strong background in working with the community and people.

“It is with great excitement that we welcome Marcos Valdez to the USTA Texas family to lead our Diversity and Inclusion initiatives as we begin 2016,” said said Van Barry, USTA Texas executive director. “Marcos has an extensive background in the tennis industry which will be invaluable in our efforts to align with the cultural changes occurring within our population. His energy and passion for the sport will allow Texas to be a leader in communication and engagement with communities that will enrich tennis for all those who play.”

In June of 2007, Marcos earned his bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a minor in Spanish at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois.  After college, Marcos began his career with USTA Texas as Multicultural Participation, NJTL, and Grants Coordinator.  From there, Marcos transitioned into non-profit development as Grants Coordinator at Skillpoint Alliance. His development work took him to La Clinica del Pueblo, a community health clinic in Washington, D.C. Following that, he served as Corporate and Foundation Relations Coordinator at Americans for the Arts, a national arts advocacy organization. Most recently Marcos consulted for the USTA Foundation’s military tennis initiative.

Aside from Marcos’ profession and career, he is an avid tennis player and highly involved with tennis in the community.  While in D.C., he served on USTA Mid Atlantic’s diversity and inclusion committee where in 2014 they awarded him with Volunteer of the Year. Now Marcos will continue his work in tennis with USTA Texas.
