Louisville Water Tennis News

The Louisville Open is taking a different approach to providing water at the WTA event.

It has announced the Louisville Water Company as a Silver sponsor of the event, which means this tournament will have an unusual feature that highlights the sponsorship.

While most tournaments have bottled water sponsors, this tournament is calling itself the first bottled water-less event. Instead of buying bottled water, fans can bring their own bottles and fill up at water stations, or buy $2 bottles from the company to fill up. The fountains will feature the company’s official name for its product, which it calls pure tap® to distinguish itself.

In a statement, it was described as the only water company to trademark its product.

There will also be cooling stations with sprayed water for fans to cool off.

“Louisville Water Company is tremendously innovative and we are pleased to have them as a partner,” said Whitney Collins-Thompson, the tournament director. “Their green initiative is good for the environment and all of our tournament guests, as this is a cost savings for the fans.”
The inaugural tournament will be a warm-up for the US Open, and is a $250,000 International event.

The tournament has a budget of $1.5 million to $2 million, and attendance is projected at about 20,000-28,000 people. Financial terms were not given.
