The All England Club has appointed Interpublic Group as the agency that will develop a campaign to promote the tournament internationally.

The agency will develop a multi-million pound campaign aimed at increasing and enhancing the image of The Championships.

Three other agencies were also in the running, but it was given to the Interpublic Group, with which Octagon is involved. IMG was a member of one of the other groups.

There was a “thorough process” and Mick Desmond, the commercial and media director at the All England Club, said, “Throughout the process, the IPG team worked with us as partners, demonstrating skill, commitment and insight in solving our challenges.”

Agency CEO, Mark Lund, said, “opportunities of this nature don’t come along too often – it’s easy to apply superlatives with Wimbledon.

“Our work now is to help build the future and protect the legacy while helping to develop a globally significant superbrand in a sympathetic and commercially astute way.”

It is the first time the tournament has appointed an agency in such a capacity.
