In a day full of epic semifinal match-ups, Naomi Broady and Robin Anderson both advance to the singles final of the 2016 Dow Corning Tennis Classic.
In the first singles semifinal of the day, doubles partners Naomi Broady and Shelby Rogers took to
the court. The big serving Brit took an early 3-0 lead and fired in an astonishing six aces in the 52
minute first set. Rogers found the baseline and quickly leveled up the match at 3-3. From there on,
both players played competitive tennis forcing a set tie break. Broady ultimately came out on top,
taking the tie break 7-5.
In the second set, Rogers found little momentum, with Broady sending in three more aces and
converting two out of two break points. With the finals clearly in her sights, the twenty-five year old
Stockport native closed out the match for a final score of 7-6(5), 6-2.
Broady reached a career high ranking of No. 111 in the world just last month and is looking to claim
her ninth ITF Women’s Circuit singles title. She most recently reached the semifinals of the Tennis
Championships of Maui, losing to eventual champion Christina McHale, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
In our next singles semifinal, wild card Robin Anderson looked to continue her run at the Dow Corning
Tennis Classic as she took on No. 3 seed and fellow American Irina Falconi. Both players started
out playing aggressive tennis, but after converting a crucial break point later in the set, Anderson
took the first set 6-3.
In the second set, Anderson improved on the number of first service points she won and played a
aggressive baseline game. Both players stayed neck and neck but Anderson stayed steady and
avenged her 2014 loss to Falconi, beating her 6-3, 6-4.
“With more and more matches I got more and more confident just because I was playing good players
and I was being really solid and staying up and keeping up with them. So just dealing with that
everyday has pushed me through”, said Anderson.
Head-to-head, Broady leads 2-1 with their most recent meeting coming in Landisville just last year.
Broady took the match 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5), so it is safe to assume that we will be in for a long match
tomorrow.
On the doubles side, wild cards CiCi Bellis and Ingrid Neel move into the finals where they will meet
Naomi Broady and Shelby Rogers. Everything is on the line as all players look to claim their first title
of 2016.
