Simona Halep suddenly seems to be having just too much fun with her tennis to take time out for sinus surgery after all.
The world No. 3 Romanian had been due to miss February play after an Australian Open first-round embarrassment and had elected to skip WTA events in Dubai and Doha.
But that plan has been apparently been dumped after Halep made a surprise Fed Cup appearance for her country last weekend in a loss to the Czech Republic, beating rival Petra Kvitova.
Now, it’s full speed ahead for tennis, with any medical pause postponed into the uncertain future.
Halep said that she felt fine during Fed Cup, so why bother to stop: “I am not sure,” she said. “Now that I’ve started to play good tennis, I don’t want to stop again.
“I’ve had long breaks before, many antibiotics, and I have to stay a little bit away from them. And then we’ll see – maybe this year I have to do it, because it’s better for me.”
