The South African Kevin Anderson experienced knee problems at the beginning of the season, and then also had shoulder injuries. He retired in Delray Beach and did not play Indian Wells.
Writing on social media, Anderson said, “As you have probably noticed, I’ve had some injury problems which have caused me to withdraw from a few tournaments recently. My shoulder hasn’t been firing as it should, so I have been advised to take some time to do some rehab.
“I therefore took this time to have some (very minor) surgery on my ankle yesterday – which the doctor said went very well. The ankle hasn’t been a huge problem, but I’m told that this procedure should extend my career for a few more years.”
Anderson plans to return during the claycourt season.
