The USTA today announced that Collin Altamirano of Sacramento, California and Mac Styslinger of Birmingham, Alabama have been awarded wild card entries into the 2015 Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger benefiting Special Olympics Virginia.
This $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit Challenger event will take place October 31-November 8 at The Boar’s Head Sports Club.
Currently a sophomore at University of Virginia, Altamirano earned a preseason ranking of No. 27 in singles for the 2015-2016 season. Over the summer he played in five ITF Futures events in Italy and also reached the semifinals of the Charlottesville Futures, Bolzano Futures and the Claremont USTA
ProClassic. At 17-years old, he was also the youngest main draw player at the 2013 US Open.
Currently a senior at University of Virginia and team captain of the men’s tennis team, Styslinger is both an accomplished singles and doubles player. He ended the 2014-2015 season with a 10-4 singles record and 23-4 doubles record. For the 2012-2013 season he teamed up with Jarmere Jenkins where they were the NCAA Doubles Champions.
The USTA has also awarded main draw wild cards to 2014-2015 NCAA Singles Champion Ryan Shane of Falls Church, Virginia and Ernesto Escobedo of the United States.
The Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger benefiting Special Olympics Virginia was first held in 2009 and is the first of three consecutive indoor hard court USTA Pro Circuit events held as part of the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge. The tournament is organized by The Boar’s Head Sports Club, with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Virginia.
